The story by Raymond Carver, Cathedral, has 3 main characters. The blind man, the narrator, and the narrator’s wife. The blind man, Robert, has two versions of what the narrator, husband, is like. The first version is the one that the husband’s wife provides through the tapes. For example, this can be like the husband not having any friends and complaints about how he is usually drunk (par. 10). When Robert talks to the narrator once they meet he might have felt like the husband was a know-it-all and close minded person. For instance, the husband asked Robert which side of the train he sat on (par. 25). Although he replied, the blind man cannot see out the window, so why does it matter?
