Unitary executive theory is the American constitutional law holding that the president has the power to control and dominate the entire executive branch. According to” Article Two of the United State Constitut ion”. The theory pronounced that the power of President cannot be restricted by Congress. This theory was reckoned by author, professor of law, attorney, and others in the past U.S. Bush’s administration to explain the nudge taken by President Bush in the use of his presidential powers on terrorist attack on September 9/11. (Divoll, V 2013).The application of this theory might have the positive and negative impact; some of its implementation has critics while some do not.
One of the prons of Unitary executive theory is that decision are quick to make effectively by the president single handedly without the delay that could be caused by the congress in other to decide. Another pron of this theory is that it is powerful, simple and stable because few people take the decision in unitary executive theory. The current event related to this when president used his Veto power to shelve the deportation of 5 million illegal immigrants in United States of America, the congress was not part of this decision and his reason behind this, was that those immigrants have citizens’ of America as their children and close relatives.
The cons of the theory is that it is considered dictatorship because the power is centralized, decision is not for the interest of people but the government, and it doesn’t have room for check and balance of powers. For example, President Obama has been abusing and over exercising this power
