2)Describe the human fundamental niche. Humans like every other species have fundamental and realized niches. The fundamental niche of humans is similar to those of other species it is bounded by the biological tolerance of extreme environmental conditions (N., L., & E., n.d.). Humans unlike other species have developed the amazing ability to use technology to mitigate extreme environmental conditions, providing survival (N., L., & E., n.d.). Due to the fact that humans developed the ability to utilize technology they can now sustain themselves in extreme weather conditions. It can also be defined as the actual amount of resources or environmental conditions that an organism is able to utilize within an ecosystem (E., 2017). Another description of realized niche is where living organisms persist, utilizing resources despite the presence of competition, co-existence and predation (Fundamental Vs Realized Niches, n.d.). In my own word’s I define realized niche as the actual way an organism functions in an ecosystem. So overall, realized niche elaborates on what the species actually do in an ecosystem (S, P., 2011) A simple example is how Lions and Hyenas compete for the same food. The realized niche will always be smaller than the fundamental niche. Realized niche is known to be the subset to the fundamental niche of a species because it describes ecological conditions that are actually available to a species (O., 2011). It is the actual habitat that it occupied completely by an organism in the presence of its competing species (Cornell, B. n.d.). Realized niche is a space where an organism utilizes to survive and grow. Realized niche is known as an actual habitat that it completely occupied by species (Community Ecology. n.d.). Realized niche is usually smaller than the fundamental niche due to the interspecific interactions which are competition and predation (Community Ecology.
