“We know a great deal more about the causes of physical disease than we do about the causes of physical health. - Scott Peck.” Americans today are being less concerned about their physical health. That is because more distractions are being created, fast food restaurants are increasing, and people are just creating lazy habits, causing them to become obese or overweight.

Today, more and more distractions are being created that are making kids become less active. We’ve got televisions, video games, and telephones. Things like that are just keeping kids inside. Think about it. If kids couldn’t watch the television, call up their friends, or play their games, where would they be? Exactly. Probably outside running around, playing around or something. When kids get accustomed to “just chilling” all of the time, the quality of their physical health is decreased. When that happens, they become more prone to physical diseases. Coronary heart disease, hypertension, and osteoporosis are only a few of the risks of physical inactivity. As a matter of a fact, doctors say that one in ten deaths in the United States are related to physical inactivity. Also, doctors say that physical inactivity itself is just as harmful as smoking. Clearly, it causes obesity, which leads to many more cardiovascular diseases.

Furthermore, fast food restaurants take a toll on people’s physical health. It causes weight gain, headaches, and even depression! Think about all that cholesterol build-up in your bloodstream. I bet there’s something that you don’t know about those burger wrappers. The wrappers used in the fast food industry are coated with perfluoroalkyls (or PAC), which prevents the grease from leaving through the paper. They have been proven to get inside the human body and change into more harmful forms which can lead to many health complications. The wrappings used in fast food industry are significant and indirect sources of PFCA contamination. This happens to be an increasing find in the human bloodstream and has also shown build-up in the liver. Fast foods are proven to make someone feel exhausted or short of breath if eaten on a regular basis. It also causes the body’s cardio quality to decrease. If you’re an athlete, fast foods shouldn’t be a regular part of your diet, because fast foods can make you tire faster than you would if you avoid fast foods.

In addition, people are creating more lazy eating and exercising habits. They’re becoming too comfortable with themselves being unfit. In most cases, it’s because of the way that they were brought up. Most parents tell kids, “Don’t worry honey, you’re perfect the way you are.” Well, that may be the case, but you should always try to better yourself. Set some goals to get and stay in shape, and go for them! Working out is one way of staying healthy and physically fit. Going to the gym is good, but a 30-minute walk each day is just as good if your intent is to stay healthy and live. But just don't overlook the fact that you must get a healthy portion of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet before you even think
