I don’t have many interests now, but I do know that I want to become a doctor in the future, namely a pediatrician. This is the main reason why I wanted to write about Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler. She is a big inspiration to a lot of people, including me, we will forever commemorate the life of Rebecca Lee Crumpler (1831-1895). With her legacy being best remembered as the first African-American woman physician in the United States. Doctor and author Rebecca Lee Crumpler was the First African American woman to earn a medical degree at a time when advanced education for women was highly unpracticed. Rebecca was born free and not into slavery, in Delaware, circa 1831 to parents Absolum Davis and Matilda Webber. She was raised by an aunt in Pennsylvania who very likely inspired Rebecca to go into the medical field. Her aunt was the major helping hand in her community, since there were very few places that treated black people at the time, Rebecca’s aunt, having some knowledge in the field of nursing was the person to whom everyone came for medical assistance. It is believed that as a result of watching her aunt helping others, it inspired Rebecca to have the urge to want to help people.
