Defying Gravity

Rebellion is either a blessing to humans or the downfalls of others. Oscar Wilde claims that disobedience is a human trait that promotes social progress. While rebellion is usually seen as a bad thing, it's not always the case. As Benjamin Franklin once stated, “Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God.” Rebellion is a good thing and can bring peace and good to the world. It can also bring us social progress as well as to keep fighting for what we think is right. One example of a rebellion against an evil leader would be in the Broadway show, Wicked. One of the main characters, Elphaba, revolts against the Wizard of Oz who wants to use animals as slaves in order to use them as spies against the enemy. Deadly. Frightening. Those are some words, many would've used to describe The American Revolution as it was the first major war America was fighting and it was against an unbeatable enemy known as Britain. The American Revolution does not need much explaining but the colonists did not like the heaving rules and mindset Britain had on the 13 colonies so they decided to revolt. It was a scary time as many people did not think they would make it and if they did, what would Britain to the survivors? Britain was a force to be reckoned with. They were like the iconic superhero, Superman, but with no kryptonite. They were unbeatable on land and in the sea. We still did not give in as our freedom was so close but yet so far. We just needed that little push in which we ended up winning our freedom thanks to the leadership of George Washington and with the aid of the French and Spain. Because of our victory, we gained our freedom and we can now do what we do everyday without taxes. We can be free to voice our opinions. We can be free as human beings are supposed
