Recent Medical Discoveries
The medical field has been making amazing discoveries to improve health. Over the years, scientists have been conducting ongoing research using current technology as they find solutions to solve the health problems that many people face. Their research has resulted in antidepressant medication, genetic cloning, heart pacemakers and also laser surgery. However, there are some advantages and disadvantages for each procedure of medicine. Each patient is different and would react differently to treatment depending on their medical history. In order to make any decisions about treatment, doctors must inform patients of the advantages and disadvantages of any treatment that may be considered.
If you’re suffering from depression, antidepressant medication may relieve some of your symptoms, but I am lead to believe they do more harm than good. I think antidepressant medications do not cure any underlying problems a patient may have. These drugs come with significant side effects and dangers that are worst than depression itself. Antidepressants may cause increase in blood sugar, complications in vision, kidney failure, restlessness, insomnia, and even death. Some side effects are serious enough to make people stop taking the medication. Not only do they have terrible side effects, researchers are also questioning their effectiveness. Most people get through their depression with the antidepressants but some people do not. Someone taking antidepressants can have suicidal thoughts and behavior. I suggest that anyone suffering from depression should first think about pursuing other options like therapy, exercise, or self –help strategies. These suggestions can work but without the side effects. Another recent medical discovery is genetic cloning. Unlike Antidepressant medication, this has to be one of the most interesting discoveries. Researchers can grow vital organs that can replace failing organs. For example, if heart disease destroys a patient’s heart, a replica of the organ can simply be grown to replace it. Human cloning can also be a good solution for couples who are fertile. On the fun side, it even gives the couple the option to create the child with certain features. Cloning human tissue can be used to treat cancers and can be used for plastic surgery. Also, cloning endangered animals can help them from becoming extinct. These facts prove how positive genetic cloning can be; there are unfortunately negative views on genetic cloning as well. Genetic cloning is said to be against the moral and religious values of millions of people. They claim that cloning threatens freedom and Individuality. People all over the world are protesting to put a stop to genetic cloning, something that I strongly believe we can benefit from in the future. The pacemaker is a small device that is placed in the chest or abdomen to help the heart’s rhythms. This device uses electrical pulses to help the heart’s rate beat normally. Pacemakers are used to treat arrhythmia. Arrhythmia is a condition when someone has a problem with rate and rhythms of the heartbeat. Pacemakers can relieve symptoms such as fatigue and fainting. Over the years researchers have improved the pacemaker to monitor your blood temperature, breathing rate,
