Black, white, and red are the most important colors in, “The Book Thief.” It is the colors of the Nazi flag. On the other hand, it is also used to visualize different scenarios in the eyes of Death. Whenever there is a scenario the sky turns a certain color. It helps Death have a vacation from all the killing and work of taking people’s soul. Red, symbolizes the scenario of murder and destruction. White, on the other hand, symbolizes innocence. Black, the final color, symbolizes the sadness and mourning.

Red, in this book, is a terrible, awful color. It represents all the death and destruction that happens everywhere. It was WWII and wars were raging out in Germany. But the worst type of murder that ever happened in Germany, was in the concentration camps. Jews were being killed every day in what many call, "showers." Air raids come to Himmel Street, but one of the many was the most fatal. One air raid occurred during the night when no one was aware and all sleeping. That day most of Himmel street died. Hans and Rosa Hubermann died in their sleep. Rudy, Liesel's best friend, died without a chance of survival.

White is the color of innocence. In the beginning of the book, Liesel's brother dies in a train accident. He was a sweet boy that had all in the word to live. But as circumstances appear that sad day, he was out of time. Another sad death that happened was the death of Reinhold Zucker. Zucker was at the wrong spot at the wrong time. He was as the innocent man who disliked Hans. It was his anger that finally killed
