The state of California is known to have the largest prison system in the nation and the third largest prison system in the world, incarcerating about 155,500 men and women in the states thirty three prisons which were only meant to have half of the number of prisoners. According to the study conducted by Pew Charitable trusts which was mentioned in the New York times article Recidivisms’ High Cost and a Way to Cut It (citation here) California has the highest rate for reincarceration in the country at 57.8 percent. In the same study, it was found that oregon, a state that has instituted a number of rehabilitation programs for their prisoners, has the lowest reincarceration rates at 22.8 percent. Within each team member there is a certain level of expectation that they are held to, to be able to keep the court running smoothly. For example as mentioned in the District of Oregon Reentry court model ( cite), the judge is expected to be actively involved in order to “focus court administration on the various policies and procedures that allow for the implementation of the reentry court program.” .This program was Developed in Oregon in May of 2005 and has slowly spread to other states jurisdictions that have introduced the reentry court model, one of those states being California. AIP is meant to provide intensive treatment for criminal through programs.The SUMMIT program is one of the two programs that is mentioned with detail in the report on alternative incarceration programs (cite).According to the Department of Oregon Correctional Facility(cite) the SUMMIT program was established at the Shutter Creek Correctional facility in North Bend Oregon and was intended “to assist offenders in developing socially acceptable tools to succeed as citizens in our communities.” In the same report the summit program was described to have a six month institutional phase and upon completion of the program are “ released to a 90-day transitional leave in the community...:”. In the report on AIP ( cite), it was found that Inmates who completed the summit programed showed small improvement in reincarceration over the comparison group and because of there was not much improvement, there wasn't a sufficient statistical significance. The second program apart of the AIP is the New Directions Program. This program was instituted at the Powder River Correctional Facility which is located in Baker city Oregon. As reported by New Directions Inc., the program offers treatment that targets criminogenic needs in order to reduce recidivism rates. The goal of this program is to reduce alcohol/drug use/abuse, criminal thinking but
