Between the World and Me: Reflection Ta-Nehisi Coates used an exceptional strategy when writing Between the World and Me. The second I started reading I found myself enraptured by his abundantly poetic form. For example, when he described his near death experience. Coates writes, “the boy with the small eyes stood across from me holding my entire body in his small hands.” (Coates 19) Instead he could have written, that kid could have killed me, but he chose to I found as well that he has chosen to present his book in a more personal manner rather than statistical by including photos of himself and people close to him along with poetry from well known African American poets/writers.
