I think that receptive disorder will be harder to work with than expressive disorder. A student with an expressive disorder could draw pictures, or act out what he/she is trying to say. With receptive disorder, the child will know what to say but he/she doesn't understand what the right answer would be because they don't understand the question. I guess one way to help the student could be by making pictures into a question or using hand gestures. For example, "do you like cats?" can be interpreted with a picture of a cat along with a smiley face and a sad face along with a question mark. If that doesn't work, it will probably be best to get some professional help.

Falling behind in reading, I think could cause the student to have a harder time adjusting to bigger words. For example, the student might not know that he/she needs to say "cannonball," instead of "cannon ball". To the student, it sounds the same but he/she don't understand the concept of compound words. Also, the student might be slower at reading because of what reading level the student is on. One way to fix this, I believe is having the student set certain goals to help with his/her reading. For example, the student can try to go from a second grade reading to a third grade reading at the end of two weeks.

The student is having understanding compound words, or say bigger words than he/she is used to, could use an assistive technology to help him/her with his/her work. If the student understands the work but needs help with understanding what one or two words mean; then, I can help the student with that or those words. It all really depends on the situation and the student whether or not the student needs an assistive
