Sam did not maintain eye contact during the session and continued looking down. His mum had written a note which explained few situations where Sam was angry. He rated his mood as 4 on a scale of 1-10 where 1 meant very low mood and 10 meant joyful. We explored positive qualities in Sam (5 things I like about myself worksheet) Sam really struggled to get the positive qualities as he often said ' I don't know’. After probing he wrote funny, constructive and brave. We explored his anger warning signs with the help of worksheet: mind goes blank, heavy/fast breathing, argumentative etc.

We discussed that his brain has got into a habit of being angry and hence we would re train the brain to deal with his angry with the use of distraction strategies. He was also explained that eventually we would focus on monitoring and challenging his thoughts. He was suggested to use backward counting 50-1 or 100-1 when he gets anger. He was suggested that instead of lashing out at others he can distract his mind by counting backwards.
