In the book, 1984, by George Orwell, he talks about a time in the past where the government has the control to censor everything that we say and every move that we make. They put computers in everyone’s home that monitored what they did and said, day in, day out. If you didn’t follow the rules that were laid out, then you would be taken away and erased from history, like you were never there in the first place. They even taught children, at a very young age, that sex was a sin and it should only be done when you are trying to have children. They didn’t want people to enjoy themselves, or look as though they had even a glimpse of happiness.

The computers were known as telescreens, and they monitored everyone’s moves 24/7. If you did something the government didn’t like, they would send the thought police, and you were taken away to a place that no one knew. You would just disappear from existence and there would be nobody to stop it. The only time you were even remotely alone, was when you were sleeping, that is if you were still. If you moved around even a little bit, the telescreen would turn back on and monitor you for the rest of the night. You couldn’t even go to the bathroom without it knowing about it. I think that this really influences the society because, they don’t get to choose their own thoughts and feeling, they are told what to do, and if they disobey those rules, then you were taken away and never heard from again. They forced all of their citizens to conform to the ideas that they thought were correct instead of letting them decide for themselves, which is what happens today.
