My fieldwork for ED344 Foundations of Literacy was such an awesome experience. I had the opportunity to do several fieldwork practicums, but this one was truly enjoyable. This semester I worked with 1st graders with Ms. Preston, at Woodriver Elementary. Woodriver Elementary is one of the smaller public schools in Fairbanks. The Woodriver Elementary school community has a wide range of students from different backgrounds and culture. Parents work closely with teachers and many times you will find many parents volunteering in classrooms. My last day of my fieldwork I was able to participate in the primary spring concert, which was a delight and was a good ending to my fieldwork at Woodriver.

Ms. Preston on several occasion how to help me with students who were not following directions. As time progress, I did get better with classroom management, but I still struggle with this issue even at the very end of my fieldwork. The other challenge I faced, is not knowing where I should step in when I student was struggling. How much help should I give? How do I give the proper help without actually given the answer away? This is a 1st grade class so they did need some guidance for assignments. It was just had to find that balance where I am actually giving help and not just giving them the answer. Ms. Preston was very good in guiding me in this department. The last challenge I faced is dealing with the emotions of leaving students you have come to know and care for. Unfortunately, many of our educational classes do not prepare you for the emotional parts of teaching, thee separation, frustration, and anxiety. I think this was the biggest challenge for me at least, learning to deal with all the new emotions that will come with being a
