Learning how to think more abstractly and critically when it comes to analyzing, researching and comparing topics for writing is going to be crucial for my college career. Lectures have been given by my teachers in the past on how to do this but, I always ignored them because I thought my writing ability was a lost cause. I am beginning to realize that it was not my writing that was terrible, but the mindset I had towards my own capabilities. There will be difficult assignments in college compared to anything else I have ever received, but I am looking forward to seeing my knowledge of writing expand. Writing papers have always been a challenging and stressful topic when it came to my academic. Throughout middle and high school, I struggled to just put words on a page. Hours on end, I would stare at the blank screen, hoping I would have some sort of an epiphany and the words would start to flow. Of course, this never worked out because writing takes time, effort, and a great deal of practice. Teachers always advised me to stop telling the reader everything but to show them through my writing and, for some reason my brain was never able to grasp this ideology and apply it. Not merely the words on the page, but the entire process before, during, and after writing a college level essay. For the majority of my high school writing assignments, I have been able to just complete what was said on the rubric and follow a five paragraph outline in order to receive an A, even if my writing was not up to par. It is essential that I learn how to use the multiple steps required in writing a superior paper and use them effectively. Whenever an essay is assigned in college, I must mentally prepare myself to write and rewrite multiple times compared to the once or twice like I would have done before. To plan out the essay before I even begin
