Reflective Essay: Why I Like Writing

I do not like writing. I have noticed that since the time I have started high school I haven’t enjoyed writing. I do not enjoy writing because I feel I am not good at it. Because I don’t feel like I am good at it I become anxious when I have to write. Recently I have realized that writing is important in everyday life. Because writing is so important I have been learning how to work through the anxiety I feel when I write. Since 5th grade I have realized that writing is something I do not enjoy. I would put off my writing assignments as long as I could because I would dread doing them. I usually had my mom help me because I put everything off to the last minute; of course she was always willing to help. Now thinking back on it I probably procrastinated because I was anxious. Despite feeling anxiety I remember a positive experience I had with my fifth grade teacher. I had been sick for a couple of days and when I came back he told me I had missed a big writing assignment but he wasn’t worried because he said I was a good writer. …show more content…
Since the beginning of my ninth grade year the number of writing assignments I have completed has increased. These assignments have given me an opportunity to work through anxiousness and improve my writing ability. The following sentence is an example from an essay I had written in 11th grade that was grammatically incorrect. “In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, it explains some of the things that could have happened in the south during the time of segregation” (Chesnut). My teacher at the time gave me constructive feedback and helped me improve the sentence. I have appreciated that teachers interest in me and in helping me improve my
