Regions of England: SW, SE, London, E, East Midlands, West Midlands, Yorkshire & Humber, NW and NE.
E.g. E (East of England) – Suffolk County Council – St Edmundsbury borough council
70% elected are local councillors, rest are voluntary groups.
Regional assemblies are funded by central government.

GREATER LONDON
Regional government for London.
Separately elected assembly.
Directly elected mayor.
Mayor leads strategies on transport, economic development and the environment.
Sets budgets for the GLA (Greater London Authority), transport for London, the London development agency, the Metropolitan police and London’s fire services.
The mayor chairs transport for London.

Regional assembly is a form of government, where the decisions about what happens in a particular region are made at local level.
Role of regional assemblies.
Regional Planning
They are responsible for developing, monitoring, and reviewing regional planning and transport strategies.
Regional Housing
They make recommendations to the government on housing priorities in their area.
Advocacy and Policy Development
They provide a voice for the regions in parliament and at European level. They also promote regional partnerships.
Accountability
They check and monitor the work of regional development agencies.

Local governments include county councils, metropolitan councils, and parish, town, borough and district councils.
Local government in England operates under either a one or two tier system-unitary authority or county and district/borough council.
