As a nursing student graduating from The University of Adelaide, I feel a great sense of accomplishment, happiness, joy and achievement. Yet I also feel fearful and nervous knowing we have to now carry the heavy responsibilities of a Registered Nurse. The transition from nursing student to registered nurse has been described as exciting, frightening, worrying and a challenging experience. The research analysed in this essay portrays the fear I carry, regarding the transition phase. This consists of: increased accountability and responsibility, preparation for a registered nurse role via the exposure of clinical placements, medication administration unsupervised, time management skills and prioritisation of tasks each shift.
