Forrest Gump is a complex and interesting lead character which provides a unique contrast (a different lifestyle compared to those appearing in the movie) to typical early adulthood behavior. He is an individual that is "slow" and lived a distinctive life. Despite this, he is able to attend college, and graduate, signifying that he does indeed have some cognitive abilities in the classroom. Emotionally, Forrest does experience emotions such as falling in love, grief, anxiety, excitement, nervousness and so forth. I love the line he mentioned in the movie, " I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is" that line slapped me in the face. It made me realize that even people with abilities can have emotions. Forrest loved Jenny, it was an unconditional kind of love. These emotions come very naturally and are experienced as one might expect, another example, when Forrest's mother dies he is very sad and when other people in his life pass away he experiences that same grief. In my opinion, he lived more of a normal life than other characters in this film. People that are disabled are human beings, just like us, and should be treated as individuals. Forrest Gump is a love/hate story of a simple man going through historical events, that he has no idea he s in, but plays a significant role in them. Forrest continually finds himself in the middle of important events from the late 50's through the 70's some of these events consist of meeting Elvis Presley, John F. Kennedy, and Richard Nixon. Forrest does go through some health-related issues in childhood and suffers from such injuries as a bullet wound during the Vietnam War, but in general his health remains consistently good in comparison to other characters in the film. However, his cognitive status is not as advanced as his physical abilities. Due to Forrest's physical abilities it got him to the places where events were taking place at. This movie is definitely amazing. It goes to show that determination goes a long way. You would think that the mentality of a person with a disability would think that they are incapable of doing anything in their life. But, none the less most people with disabilities do not consider themselves having a disability since they feel that their disability makes them who they are. If they are naturally born with a disability they learn to live and adapt with it. Forrest did so in the movie, he was not trying to be someone he's not; he was
