Repairing a Broken Sisterhood
For my final research assignment, I decided to focus on the relationship between my younger sister and me. As flesh and blood relatives we come into contact with each other on a daily basis, especially that I am living at home again. However, just because we are related does not necessarily mean that we are close. My sister is five years younger than me, so sometimes the difference in age can put a damper on our relationship. Three factors that have caused conflict within our relationship are: power issues, personal flaws, and personal distance. This project aims to address the issues causing strain within our relationship as well as the implementation of various solutions I used to help resolve the relationship.
The first factor comes into play because my sister and I do not have equality in the relationship. This constant struggle for power has been an issue for as long as I remember; I can’t help but wonder if this is because she is the “baby” of the family, and as such seems to get more special attention. Not only that but she has been, until recently, the “star” of the family. Although my parents deny it, they have been known to ask me why “I can’t be more like my sister?” If anything, this power struggle could be a competition for our parents’ attention. She and I both have the same personality of wanting to be the center of attention after all.
Next is the factor of personal flaws, or attacking said flaws.
