In the book Midsummer’s Night Dream by William Shakespeare he uses four characters. Demetrius, Hermia, Lysander, and Helena are the four main characters he uses to show the different personalities people have in different relationships. It makes you wonder how people might think and feel about others if they were able to use the love juice in today's world. Demetrius is an Athenian man who is highly liked by Hermia’s father Egeus. Egeus thinks so highly of Demetrius he wants his daughter Hermia to marry him. The problem is Hermia does not love Demetrius. She is in love with Lysander. Hermia actually can’t stand Demetrius. She would rather die or become a nun then to marry Demetrius. Demetrius has no problem with marrying Hermia, not because he loves her. He only wants to use her so he can have support of Theseus and Egeus. So by marrying her he will better himself. He's a type of person that uses people and he doesn’t care about other people's feelings. He only cares about what he wants. Out of the four love characters he is the meanest. Helina doesn’t feel confident in herself and she feels she is never good enough for anyone. Sometime when people have that type of personality other people will see them the same way. For example when Demetrius would constantly cut her down. Yet she still wanted to be with him. I think that Shakespeare uses Demetrius love character to show us that sometimes a person you think you could never fall in love with just might be the right one for you. Once Demetrius realized that he wasn’t better than anyone else he was able to find happiness. Demetrius is the kind of lover that will use anyone to get what he wants. Sometimes people don’t marry the person they love in their heart, but they will marry for other reasons. Like for money and success. I wonder if he has any idea what love actually
