In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley relationships are shown throughout the entire book. Relationships that are represented in the book differ from relationships in the twentieth century. In the next paragraphs I will state how and why this is true. Relationships that are shown in Brave New World are not the same that we have been shown since we were little kids. Instead of falling in love and being happy with one significant other they have many “significant” others. Let me explain. In this book you will observe quickly that people don’t have feelings. They are taught the minute they are born into the world that feelings are bad and are not allowed. They make you too happy, too sad, and most importantly unstable. In the book they don’t know what marriage is until the end of the book and how Lenina reacts isn’t the greatest. “For always. They make a promise to live together for always.” “What a horrible Idea!” Lenina was genuinely shocked (Huxley). Many people would have to agree with Lenina in this book because they couldn’t even imagine being with one person for the rest of their lives. To them that would be so abnormal. They are learnt the opposite of the concept of marriage. In our world marriage is a happy event that takes place. Fifty one percent of woman in the United States get married. There is a big difference between not even thinking about getting married compared to a little over half actually getting married. Therefore, relationships shown in Brave New World and relationships in our world are not closely related. Relationships in our world will never be how they are shown in the book because people love the feeling of being loved, and cared about. People in our world show their feelings every day. In the book they focus on how many partners they have been with compared to our world where we try to have the least amount of partners as possible. We go through life trying to find the one we’re going to be with for the rest of our lives. The feeling of love is the strongest feeling we can experience during our
