Puritan society had a tight control over their people. For one, Puritans where a vastly religious society. By holding tight religious control over there people Puritans would basically be forced to follow these rules. In order to keep these tight controls, they made laws pertaining to religious life. For example, there were laws forcing people to attend church twice on Sabbath, if they neglected to do so they would be fined or suffer bodily punishment (Laws and Documents Relating to Religion in Early VA). These rules showed the importance religion had on Puritan society.
