The films, Remember The Titans (RTT) and The Sapphires are both about discovering significant social messages of racial conflict. With these messages and the techniques used in both films, this has resulted in two powerful films that highlight racial discrimination. This essay will explore the relationship between the filmmaking techniques and the social messages it is trying to highlight, as well as the similarities, differences and techniques shared between both films.
Remember The Titans is a film based around American football; it is about two schools that have been forced to integrate and therefore the need to combine both football teams. The teams consist of black and white players, which resulted in many conflicts, as there was a lot of racism in the 1970’s. Throughout the film the players of the team learn to work together, learn about one another’s likes and dislikes, to build a strong and undefeatable football team as well as friendship.

Some other techniques used in this film include a circular structure of the story line, as the movie begins at the ending where everyone is attending Gerry’s funeral. The producer used this structure as it grabs the attention of the audience for starting at Gerry’s funeral, which leaves them pondering and intrigued throughout the rest of the film. Camera angles in this film included a number of wide shots while at training camp and playing football, but in important scenes the angles were close ups of individual characters to show conversations and emotions throughout this film.
