Remember the Titians Dedication, commitment, and Loyalty is what Coach Boone an African American coach from North Carolina expects out of his football team. Coach Boone replaced a European American named Coach Yoast from Virginia for the head coaching job at T.C Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Tensions arise when players of different races are forced to be together on the same football team. In this film coach Boone says “This is where they fought the battle of Gettysburg. Fifty thousand men died right here on this field, fighting the same fight that we are still fighting among ourselves today. T. C. William. Virginia, like many other Southern states had a history of segregated schools. Which was the original term for “legal segregation” that took long to up by federal courts, it had effectively created two separate societies. The two societies were separate but they were barely equal T. C. Williams High school had the goal, to not have segregation as part of their school system. Black and white players of different football teams were now part of the same school. If there was only one high school, there would be only one football team. The questions that were always asked was "who would be on the team?” and the most important question was “who would be the head coach for this football team?” One of the strongest most fearful competitions in this city was football. The football team did not know that they would set the tone for the entire community in a time of tension, disrespect and negativity. Going under distractions and learning the definition of leadership the players developed a strong bond as a team through anything that came between them. This took away the problems based on race, and cultural beliefs. Their success and wins on the field began to influence the rest of the school and of course the community. The community began to feel a bond on to itself, by seeing that segregation is not the way to go. The success of that team and the sense of community helped within the city with so many people in Alexandria and in T. C.
