Why shouldn’t all groups of people be compensated by the U.S for it’s wrong doings? Reparations is the idea of paying someone or a group in some way or helping those who have been wronged. Though the U.S. has already given out reparations to several groups of people, African Americans in particular has been glossed over since the time of slavery. Despite the amount of hate and discrimination crimes done against African Americans and the fact that many of them are living below the poverty line today. They have received no form of compensatory payment that would lift them out of those poor conditions. Giving reparations to African Americans will bring their communities out of the harsh living conditions caused by racism and slavery. Today many African Americans live in poverty. According a U.S. Census Bureau Study 27% of all African Americans lie below the poverty line and 45.8% of African American children live in poverty also. This compared to their white counterparts with a 9.9% poverty rates and other racial groups, African Americans have the highest poverty rate in the U.S. …show more content…
For example, The bombing and burning of Wall St of 1921 was a devastating time of the black community. Homes, Over 600 Business, Thousands of Jobs, Economic Movements, were destroyed. In a 12 hour period over 3,000 black citizens were killed and families were separated. According to BayView.com “It was the golden door of the Black community during the early 1900s, and it proved that African Americans could create a successful infrastructure”. Wall Street was seen as a place where African Americans could come together and live like a civilized society without being judged because of the color of their skin.
