In the book “The Great Gatsby”, Nick tells Gatsby, "You can't repeat the past". Gatsby replies, "Can't repeat the past?...Why of course you can!" . I believe that many people around the 20’s wanted to relieve their past and would like to have their old life back. This was not uncommon for someone around the time of the 1920’s to think. The reasons for this are various as many things were changing in the 20’s such as culture, music, and way of life. One of the key reasons people most likely wanted to relive the past is because of the war.

Many men were separated from their families and loved ones when they were drafted for WWI. This meant that many women had to get jobs to support their families and provide supplies for the troops overseas. Many of the men died in combat or had war related deaths. This meant that a lot families could not support themselves after the war as their main source of income (father or husband most likely) could not work.

Many families had to resort to pulling their kids out of school and having them work to pay for food and bills. Times were tough around this time and even more sacrifices had to be made in order for many people just to stay alive. Many of these families were probably upper middle class to high class citizens 10 years before but due to the implications of the stock market crash some of these families ended up on the street begging for money or work.

Many people were affected in 20’s, whether it was from the war, the stock market crash, or just a longing to go back in time and relive past events. Many people were emotionally affected from the war and from having to sacrifices including give up some of their freedoms in America. The “roaring” 20’s was a time of ups and downs and many people lived their lives fast but all had a longing to go back to when things were more
