Repetitive practice is the concept of muscle memory, and often referred to as “auto pilot”. Through constant training, an officer has developed muscle memory in certain situations such as handcuffing and firearm tactics. Tactical reloading, drawing their firearm, and handcuffing is now second-nature as a result of repetitive practice. Stress inoculation is important because it deals with the midbrain and the performance under high levels of stress. In law enforcement training, recruits are trained under a high level of stress to try to simulate the same real life conditions. This is so that when out on patrol in high level of stress, the officer will automatically go back to the training that he or she received.
