i. ABSTRACT WILDE LOVE BY Benjamin Joseph Schneider I will be writing a one-act play based on three short stories by Oscar Wilde. I plan to adapt the three stories and intertwine them with comments by Oscar Wilde. He will be a recurring character, making observations as he reads to his maid, Mrs. Jefferson, the stories Bosie sent to him. I will search through the letters of Oscar Wilde to see if there is anything I can use to add some details to the play. Instead of three separate scenes, having commentary by Wilde will serve to unify the play. The three stories I am adapting are: “The Nightingale and the Rose,” “The Sphinx Without a Secret,” and “The Model Millionaire.” Each story I feel is one of Oscar Wilde’s great works. Each has a similar metaphor, and all three focus on love and important lessons in life.
