A Resident Assistant (RA) serves as the primary resource for building community and helping students connect with each other and CMU. This is the RA job description on CMU’s website. I strongly believe that I possess the characteristics to be an excellent RA for CMU. To be an RA you have to possess several skills. Some of mine include motivation, determination, organization, and compassion. These 4 characteristics are 4 of my strongest characteristics that will allow me to be an exceptional Resident Assistant
First of all, my motivation. As a RA I will be motivated to build a positive community and help residents of not only my floor but all of my hall. The motivation I possess will go further than being a RA. I am a motivated student and person. I am motivated to do well in school, graduate in 4 years, earn a good job, and help others. I have always been motivated to be successful and happy, and as a RA I can help my residents understand the importance of being motivated and hopefully I can help them become motivated to do well as well. Motivation is an essential quality I hold that will allow me to be a wonderful Resident Assistant.

All four of these qualities are essential qualities to build a positive community, assist residents in any way possible, and serve as a resource for the university. All four of the qualities I have mentioned above are qualities that I have had my entire life and they make me the person that I am right now and will continue to be in the future.
