Articles about politics are written to inform the public about new and interesting arguments going on in the government. Most authors attempt to write in a neutral matter about the political topics. Although they make an effort to do this, the articles written are almost always swayed towards the authors opinion. Therefore, the article is more persuasive than informative towards the public. Numerous authors, including Thomas P. Abt, are prime examples of this. In the article “How Not to Respond to the Rising Murder Rate”, Thomas Abt takes a democratic stand on the situation given. He mentions a countless number of democratic standpoints in the article such as calling out Donald Trump’s ideas for change. He stated in the article that our President and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, “will do far worse.” Abt also wrote, “And nothing will change.” right after he pointed out Donald Trump’s ideas. Such as the second amendment of the United State’s constitution that protects individual gun ownership among americans. This writing also failed to mention the standpoint of people who own guns for hunting and sport. It also does not further state anything about how people will stop criminals that still bear arms after these gun protection laws are put into place. Needless to say, it does not mention how or who will take the guns away from citizens either. It is close to impossible to confiscate or extinguish all the guns in the United States.
