As an American citizen, there are many rights that you have. With those rights, come many responsibilities. A few of the major responsibilities of an American citizen in my opinion are to pay your own way, the responsibility to be an informed voter, responsibility to put America first, and also the responsibility to be a good person.
First and foremost, the responsibility to pay your own way in this country. No one owes you anything in the United States. As a citizen in the United States, it is your responsibility to get an education, work for your money, and support yourself and your family. Although, it is very common in our country, living off of government assistance for your whole life is not the right thing to do. It is understandable to take advantage of government assistance during a rough time, but not for your entire life. It is your right to work, and that right should be exercised. Everyone should have the idea that they would like to make a legacy for the future generations

The responsibility to be a good person. Everyone should practice this on an everyday basis. It takes no skill, talent, hard work, or training to be a good person. Being a good person is simple. To be a good person, all that is needed, is to do the right thing. Whether it be holding the door for someone, picking up someone’s books when they drop them in the hallway, volunteering at your local nursing home, or donating to charity, just be a good person. As long as your aren’t being a bad person, you are a being a good person. Honesty, honor, godliness, industry, respect for the law, morality, and truthfulness are the basics to being a good
