Introduction
Resveratrol is a polyphenol found in plants and is used to defend against pathogens and ultraviolet radiation. Polyphenols are of special interest because of their potential benefits to health. Scientists have found resveratrol beneficial in preventing heart disease, cancer, aging and diabetes. This compound can be found in peanuts, dark chocolate, blueberries, and most notably, red grapes and red wine. There are also many supplements available.

It would be difficult for an individual to meet the equivalent dose of resveratrol used in some animal studies even if a supplement was used. Some studies have tested 2,000 milligrams on animals where most supplements only contain 250-500 milligrams. Resveratrol is also chemically related to estrogen and may act as such in the body. High estrogenic activity could lead to certain cancers such as breast, ovary, and uterus.
The concentration of resveratrol necessary to produce protective results in humans is ___. The results of some animal studies suggests that high doses or resveratrol could decrease the risk of clot formation. However, another study found an increase risk in atherosclerosis. Of course, it would be difficult to reach these numbers through dietary choices because a 5 oz. glass of red wine contains anywhere from .01-1.30 mg of
