Educators need to rethink their literacy pedagogy because the introduction of technology and mobile devices have provided students with multimodal ways to learn. The new term is “multiliteracies” and refers to ways students acquire knowledge. These methods have extended beyond reading printed texts and writing with pencils or pens. Written, oral, audio, visual, spatial, tactile or gestural literacies help to consolidate and make meaning of information learned by relating it to context, society, and culture (New Learning, n.d.). The five images represent learning using multimodal methods, with literacy pedagogy extending to include situated practice, overt instruction, critical framing, and transformed practice (New Learning, n.d.). The act
