Long time ago, the author and his cousin went to discover new things and when they were walking on the ditch bank, they found an egret. The author’s cousin, who always had cowboy dreams from TV shows from the late fifties, told him that they should go home and get a gun so they can hunt the bird. They went home quickly and they took a gun without the permission of the author’s mother and they went back and shot the egret and they egret died. Every winter, when the author sees an egret on the ditch bank, he regrets what he had done to the bird and wishes that he she will come back again into his fields. The author and his cousin were really excited when they discovered the egret and they recklessly rushed to get the gun so they can hunt the bird and when they killed it, the author regretted his actions and wished he had never killed the egret. And that’s exactly what humans do everyday. We are destroying the nature without even noticing and one day we will get to the point when we will regret everything we have done. As a reader of the story “Return of the Egret”, I want to ask the author why did he even let his cousin to get the gun at the first place knowing that he is trying to kill the bird. Why would you go and sneak into your house and trying to get the gun if you know that your cousin had those cowboys dreams and want to go and hunt. Regret is a bad feeling especially if you could’ve stopped your cousin from killing the egret.
Therefore, I disagree with the author in many things that he he did such as going into the house and getting the gun without the permission of his mother. If he went and talked to his mother way before getting the gun, his mother would’ve refused to give him the gun and nothing could’ve ever
