Assigned was a city unlike many, a balance of positive and negative features balancing out the community. This city is called Revelstoke located in British Columbia. The two main landform region characteristics were the central river called Columbia River and the fact it is located in a mountainous region. With that being said, the Columbia River has caused a massive flooding issue, which lead to some various different ideas in the design phase. Transportation is one aspect of liveability and the floods largely impacted these roadways, which left us with the decision of permeable roads. This was a good idea as it lets the water pass through it and has less resistance being held back. Not only that, due to flooding this changed the way some buildings were made, such as …show more content…
However, putting these buildings further away from the community can be an issue because it makes it inconvenient for local residents. Furthermore, if it is farther more people may be looking into vehicle transportation rather than walking or biking. On the other hand, Revelstoke being a mountainous region was advantageous as my group and I was able to build a ski resort allowing economic opportunities. A component of liveability is the ability to bring money into a community, which is exactly what is happening. With Revelstoke being reliant upon conventional energy sources such as natural gas, when designing the city this made it difficult to find alternative energy sources. However, since we are in a mountainous region, we realized wind currents would be stronger in the mountains, which is why we decided to build wind turbines. Another factor that made the design component for liveability and sustainability hard is the fact they're a large floodings. This made us change the way roads were made and what surrounded it. Not to mention, it also changed the elevations, some buildings were built
