“Revenge Is Never The Answer”
“Trifles” is a short story by Susan Glaspell. The idea of Susan Glaspell's short story brings up the moral question of how a domestic world can judge a woman's own value. The men in this story easily expect their wife’s to form there identify around them. In the case of "Trifles", Minnie’s innocence is in question. The main character is Mrs. Wright or “Minnie” which was never fully introduced. She’s charged with murder after John, her husband was found hung near his bed. There is a strong canary symbolism through out this shorty.

Peters notices the old birdcage with its doors torn apart, and nearly broken. She thinks to herself that it must have been John; only he is capable of something like this. Mrs. Peters then spots an interesting box that she couldn’t ignore. When she opens the box, she finds a small sample of satin with the bird surrounding it. John broke the neck of the bird to get back at Minnie; he did not like the affection she put into the bird. It was the last straw that Minnie needed to push her over the edge. Mrs. Peters can only tolerate so much from her husband; she is sucked of all her happiness and pleasure. She she’s how she is being kept in a box to please John’s own pleasures. Minnie cannot deal with her husband anymore; she breaks, and makes the choice to kill her husband by strangling him just as he did her bird. She could not get past what John did to her; she was at a breaking point like the cold glass in the winter, the pressure was too strong. The dead canary is an important piece in the story, for it symbolizes the missing fragment that the men were searching for. The women are the ones that were able to actually piece together the connection, and see the missing part of the investigation that proves that Mrs. Wright is indeed guilty of the murder of John her
