As indicated by DoSomething.org, “Globally, the average cost of a slave is $90.” Such an awful fact opens one’s eyes to the blatant lack of consideration so many people have for human life. The worldwide issue of human trafficking has devastated the lives of thousands from the triangle trade in colonial America to modern trafficking of sex slaves in Uganda and Thailand. A topic so sensitive and wide-spread can grab the attention of nearly every individual. Two authors, however, have a very close connection to the problem at hand. While any given captor’s perspective of human life has been seemingly unchanged throughout history, it is clear they have little to no regard for the lives of anyone but their own. In our modern era, most individuals would presume “slavery” has been eradicated. However, an increasing number of people are slowly starting to realize that human trafficking, whether it be for free labor or sexual purposes, is today’s slavery. According to Clawson (2009), “approximately 50,000 individuals were trafficked into the United States each year.” The reasons for the servitude of human beings can vary, but it does not change the fact that individuals are being treated like property and nothing
