The bar code tattoo

The bar code tattoo is a young adult science fiction novel written by Suzanne Weyn. It takes place in a not so distant future of 2025. It about this young 17 year old girl, Kayla reed. She is only months away from getting her bar code tattoo as a ID for the future. But she suspects that there is some suspicious about it and something politically wrong with the tattoo.
The Human genome project has finally understood the human genetic codes and learned that by imprinting the information on bar codes and tattooing people everything would be much smoother in society such as in the doctors office, all the insurance information of the person would be in the tattoo and that the doctor would do is just scan it and he would find out who the person is and weather or not the person has insurance.
Reading this book made me ponder on the chances of this really happening, and I really think that someday there will be such technology that it could actually happen. But like in the book Kayla askes her friend “where does all the information collect? And is there a gap where some of it could be lost?” also if it really did happen who all would be able to see it. Someone could hack in at any givin moment of the day and do something that could sabotage your information. I also felt sad during this book because both of her parents die. Her dad got the tattoo and then all of a sudden started going crazy, and then finally passes away. He mom was killed in a terrible kitchen fire, but just before that she started going insane just like her dad. So that also made me feel confused, what were these tattoos
Turner 2 doing to the people? Her mother before she was killed was for certain that the tattoo made Kayla's dad go insane and die.
I learned a few things from this book, first thing don't let people push you into something that you don’t feel is right. We all have our own opinion on things and we shouldn’t let people use us. Also to be mores supportive. People may change and the rules could change. But if we don’t like it we should stand up for what we think is right and don’t let any say other wise and try to change you opinion on things. We should, Like Kayla, stand up for what we think and feel is right.
This book was well written, when the character is sad you know it, you also feel it. It's really descriptive. It was very interesting and kept me on my toes the whole book and I was very
