In the story “The Necklace” by Guy De Maupassant I believe that Mathilde Loisel did learn a lesson; The lesson that having material possessions doesn’t bring happiness, nor does it set you at a higher rank then someone else. Mathilde Loisel had a colossal desire to live a glamourous life and become the glamour girl. As stated in page 1, Due to her living in below middle class housing, her pondering of silk fixtures and delicate furnitures grow from a mere like, too a cry of desire (Maupassant 1). And even though she felt that she deserved a life of diamonds and pearls sort of speak, her husband turned out to be a little clerk with an income below her standards. I believe it probably wasn't even a poor quality piece of cloth as drapes. But due to the materialistic lifestyle Loisel longed for, in her eyes they were of no value. She couldn’t even stand the fact that they were middle class because she was so concerned with being in the limelight as the dazzling captivating girl. She was never content wis anything she received neither. When her husband husband gave her the invitation to go to the ball, even though she didn’t accept right away she quickly answered, “And what do you want me to put on my back” (Maupassant 2). And right after her husband decides to buy her a dress about the money she requested, she immediately dwells on the fact that she has no jewels to compliment her outfit.
