“My country, right or wrong, I love thee still!” Alfred M. Green proclaims as he eloquently gives his passionate speech to persuade his African American comrades to stand up and join the Union forces. Green, a true patriot, portrays that even though the country they live in has done them wrong, they must rise up, acting as equals to the white population, and fight for the rights that they deserve not only as Humans, but as people living in the United States of America. Green knows that the African Americans must not turn their back on the country, but muster up the courage to change what is unjustly accepted by society, drastically improving the quality of life for generations black men, women, and children for years into the future.
