Kennedy stated that space travel is something we have to do or else we will stay behind. He states, "We mean to be a part of it—we mean to lead it.". This line refers to generations before who made great inventions; however, we can make it better. Kennedy stated that to make the audience feel like they must further advance their country, one of the ways is by supporting the space travel program.
Kennedy believes that there is so much to gain from space travel. He states in paragraph 8, We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained and new rights to be won. He states this because he wants the audience to understand how much there is to discover and new opportunities. This makes the audience feel curious about the space
