The speaker, Barack Obama, often communicates in spanish in order to build up credibility with the audience. He initiates by thanking the people, “muchas gracias,” which tells the people that he is thankful and that he is able to speak the language of the country. He continues by including the title of Marti’s famous poem “Cultivo una rosa blanca,” to further show his understanding. Additionally, this make the people feel comfortable with him and provides an opportunity to Barack Obama to reveal his ultimate goal, to offer peace to “his friend and his enemy.” Afterwards, he admits that “[e]l Cubano inventa del aire,” which demonstrate his familiarity with the people and make the audience feels welcome. Lastly, he recognizes that he is thankful
