Effective persuasive strategies used by the speaker Catherine Crump is using fear to motivate her listeners, she starts with a case that had a lot of media attention which was the Michael Brown case an African American male who was shot six times because he robbed a store. Catherine also goes into the overuse of guns and she stated the police uses advanced military weapons are being used in a small town and she compares it to the advancement of surveillance. Although this intro connects to her topic to a certain extent I don't think using the Michael Brown case was effective when discussing the overuse of surveillance. I think she exaggerated her topic by comparing the two. Crump infuses pathos by stating the police use of surveillance not just on criminals but everybody in the U.S she even began to use examples such as surveillance knowing when somebody has gone to church or even an AA meeting this is a use of pathos because it generates emotions in the audience some people disagree with being watched some might even all say it's a good thing, judging on her facial expression she's not pleased with the idea of being watched all the time.
