Martin Luther King Jr pauses and repeats many times in his “I have a dream” speech. In the beginning of the speech, he pauses and says everything slowly. An example of him pausing is when he says “I am happy to join with you today” and pauses. MLK says words more loudly than other words to emphasizes them like “Five score years ago.” In the third paragraph, he does examples with “one hundred year later,” which he repeats. Martin tries to emphasize the example after the one hundred years later. MLK uses a lot of repetition in his speech. He repeats “I have a dream,” “With this faith,” and “Let freedom ring.” In paragraph for, he says “all” really stretched out to make sure people understands that it was for everybody “all men, yes, black men as well as white men.” MLK uses figurative language like analogy in paragraph five when he says “America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds.” He compares Negro people to a bad check. When Martin Luther says “Now is the time to rise from the dark,” he says “Now” loudly to make sure change happens as soon as possible. The word “Now” is also repeated. His speech started slowly, but in paragraph eight he started to speed up.
