Through John Hersey’s uses of descriptive rhetoric in the book “Hiroshima,” he exposes the readers to the physical, emotional, psychological, and structural damage caused by the use of the atomic bomb over Hiroshima. Furthermore, he demonstrates to the readers not only how people’s lives are permanently altered, but also how emotionally and psychologically devastating the atomic bomb was on the survivors and the generations to come. John Hersey’s picture like detail of the horror following the bomb and the effects of it for years to come, shocked the audience and subconsciously gave a message of future prevention of atomic warfare. He has effectively conveyed that atomic warfare is not a short lived event but a disaster that lasts lifetimes
