To show Ethos to the commoners, Marc Antony states “He was my friend, faithful and just to me.” Antony is justifying his words with the credibility of knowing Caesar. He is saying that Caesar was always fair and just and a true friend would know that. Antony’s goal of his speech is to turn the commoners against the conspirators without directly ordering anything, so they think a civil war was all the plebeians idea. Brutus’ approach is much different. He tries to connect with the plebeians through the way he talks and addresses them.
