In order to add his ethos appeals, Martin Luther King uses strong appeals to logos with a theory and some citations. First of all, he states, “In any nonviolent campaign there are four basic steps: collection of the facts to determine whether injustices exist; negotiation; self purification; and direct action.” This theory introduces and supports the idea that he claims to use nonviolent campaign to solve this problem rather than violence or war. This is a positive action because what they have to get over is the fact that the nonviolent resister doesn’t seek to humiliate or defeat the opponent but to win his friendship and understanding. Their aim is not to defeat the white community, not to humiliate the white community, but to win the friendship
