As Steve Jobs presents himself to the college graduates he does a great job of using
Ethos, Pathos and Logos. He does this by telling three different stories about his life and how they all impacted him in some way. The way he begins his speech he wants his audience to know that he came from the same place as them although it may be a little different. He first starts off with what he calls “connecting the dots” he then talks about “finding love” and lastly “death”. He talks about these three things in stories to show how life can have a huge impact on the way your life may turn out. He persuades his audience because he is a world known credible source. From Job’s many speeches, but not only the one given at this ceremony, but many beforehand as well as being the creator of Apple.

In his first story about “connecting the dots” he uses ethos hoping to convince his audience that he is similar and that his background can relate to many college students around the world. Steve Jobs didn’t have the most when growing up and he was adopted. His biological mother wanted the best for him and wanted him to be adopted by parents who had a college background. All of the things that he has experienced has allowed him to grow as a person and a businessman. The many journeys that he has experienced made him who he is today and that he had a purpose although many people may not have seen it because of his background, where he came from as well as his educational status. He ends his speech with the phrase, “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” Meaning to go after what you want in life no matter what it may be but, you don’t always have to be so serious especially during this time period in life you have to experience life in its entirety or you may not ever be able to experience at all or worse regret the experiences that you didn’t
