In the essay, “Why I Want a Wife” by Judy Brady was published 1972 in a woman’s magazine. The author, Judy Brady, uses many rhetorical devices that made her message clear, but there were three that stood out the most throughout the whole essay. Brady’s intended purpose was to show society how they put absurd and unrealistic expectations on women. With the use of satire, repetition, and a sarcastic tone the audience as able to feel the pressure and nonsense of those expectations.
The entire essay was written with satire. “...because, of course, I cannot miss classes at school. My wife must arrange to lose time at work and not lose the job…” The expectation of this is almost impossible it is frustrating. The wife must sacrifice her time at work
